Greatstone Primary School Nursery

Well that's another term done and dusted!

Well that’s another term done and dusted! It has been full on…and more…and I think a holiday for both children and staff is much needed.
This term the children in KS1 have really taken off (no pun intended!) with their space topic. This was given added focus with Tim Peake, especially as our very own Olly in class 2 communicated with him! A special thanks to the dedication of Royal Mail employee Rob Reeves for that. KS2 children wowed us in assembly yesterday with their extensive knowledge of all things historic and geographic. We learned about Mayan masks, World War II art and Norman castles amongst other things. Can’t wait to see what next tem will bring!
We had four children represent the school last week at a Commonwealth Day flag raising ceremony. They read a poem written by the children and were a credit to us. Our reception children were also a credit to us when we took them to the Marsh Academy last week for a Fun Sports afternoon. We have posted some pictures of all the excitement on our Twitter account!
There are also pictures of the fabulous Easter Fayre that was held yesterday. Brilliant entries for the Easter basket competition; it made choosing winners very difficult for the judges! The Fayre raised £238.04 for the PTFA funds. Thanks to the PTFA for their hard work and to all the parents and friends who supported the event.
Thank you also for the support you gave to the Book Fair held as part of our book week. We took nearly £2,000 which is amazing. Half of this amount has been given back to the school for us to spend on books. Brilliant! The posters that the children designed were also incredible. Well done to all entries…such talent!
Our football team have had a successful time in the Herald Cup tournament and have won the last two matches. Well done to them, and thank you to Mr Morgan-John for ‘managing’ and Mr Geddes for ‘ref…ing’. Thank you to parents for providing away match transport, and of course being great supporters! We very much hope we are through to the next round.
Despite a turbulent time with staffing issues, we have maintained an excellent working ethos in our school. Teaching and learning has been externally validated by the Local Authority as at least good with elements of outstanding. I am very proud to lead Greatstone Primary School and would like to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of ALL our staff.
Finally, may I wish you all a relaxing Easter break. It’s good to see the lighter evenings, and a little warmth in the sun. When we return after the holidays (Tuesday 12th April) the children will be wearing summer uniform. We have polo shirts available and the office will be open on Monday 11th April 9am -12 noon.
Take care and have a good rest. I, for one, am determined to!
Best wishes,
Nicola Wood.
