Greatstone Primary School Nursery

I can't believe we have very nearly completed our first term.

I can’t believe we have very nearly completed our first term. It has certainly been pacey and we have set the ball rolling with some seriously good learning.
Our biggest achievement to date has to be the £600 raised so far through enterprise week. If you remember it was up to each class how they made their money and boy were they enterprising! The most successful venture was class 11’s car cleaning team who raised £63.50! The range of businesses was huge, from bookmarks to quizzes, to cakes to photography. The children were really inspired and were desperate to sell their wares. Thank you all for your support. We will now work with the children to decide how we are going to spend the money to improve our outdoor facilities. Exciting!
Thank you also for your contributions to Harvest. The tins and packets will be donated to the Rainbow Centre in Folkestone and will be used for making meals for the homeless.
We are working hard with the children to ensure good attendance…ask them about the Lego bricks!
I mentioned in my last blog that two of our governors would be visiting the school as part of their monitoring work. Ms Sharman and Mrs Adam spent considerable time engaging with both teachers and children and looking at the teaching of mathematics across the school. This is fed into whole governor monitoring and subsequently supports school improvement. The outcomes were very positive and we are pleased to be addressing identified weaknesses with rigour.
It’s really good that so many parents are engaging with class dojo but please remember that it would be unlikely that a teacher would pick up a message after 8.40am. If you have an urgent message, for instance about pick up, it must be telephoned through to the school office. Also staff are unlikely to respond after 6pm. I believe this to be reasonable and we must respect their work-life balance.
The PTFA are meeting on Monday to plan another year of great fundraising. If you have any ideas, please let me know! Ticket sales for the 100 Club have started so if you want to be in with the chance of winning £50 each month for a £10 annual stake, see a member of the PTFA.
We seem to have a few parents who are double-parking at the top of Baldwin Road just before you go into the car park. It would be good to stop this practice as it’s not really conducive to keeping our children safe and, more frustratingly for others, it blocks the road. We are so fortunate to have such a large car park, let’s try to use it. Better to walk a few steps than have a child injured, or worse.
I look forward to seeing you at our Open Evenings next week but as always, if you have any comments or questions that you would like to share or have answered, please do not hesitate to contact me, or pop in to see me.
Best wishes,
Nicola Wood.
