Gosh hasn't it been cold

Gosh hasn’t it been cold? But the lighter evenings are giving us the promise of spring; nice to see a little colour about too. I really am not a winter person – brrrr!
This time last year the building work had begun in earnest and we were living in the portakabins on the playground. How quickly time marches on! It was interesting looking back over records to see that the number of children logged as late during this time dropped to virtually nothing. Unfortunately this is creeping back up again. Please do try to get your child to school on time…imagine missing the beginning of a film – it’s like that – constantly playing catch up. The morning playground is a good social space too; let’s see if we can get back to that minimal late record.
Next week Year Six are off to their residential at Kingswood, Grosvenor Hall, Ashford. I know they will have an amazing week, full of challenge, excitement and memory making. As always I am in awe of the staff who attend: this year Miss Booth, Mrs Kay, Mr Morgan-John and Miss Ward with Miss Williamson visiting daily. This is a huge responsibility and one they take on with total professionalism and commitment. A week with little sleep and high energy; how lucky are we to have that dedication?
Massive thanks also go to Mrs Parker who has raised £565.33 for school funds through her recent sponsored cycle ride. She rode1000 miles over the course of a month and the money raised will go towards improving playtime equipment for the school. Many thanks to all who made a donation.
For those who have queried why we haven’t celebrated world book day…we will, but the week after next. We want to make this more of an experience enabling us to fulfil the intended aims of the event, which is to further engage children in reading and books. We will have a book fair that week too which will run after school. We won’t, however, be dressing up that week (for some that may be a relief!!)
I have finally got the Twitter account sorted so plan to update it with much more regularity. I posted several photographs of work from around the school yesterday. Do have a look – we have much to be proud of.
Finally, I wish you all a lovely weekend and Happy Mother’s Day. I shall be sharing Mother’s Day with my son’s eighteenth birthday…I think for this year he can be the special one!
Keep warm,
Nicola Wood.
