Greatstone Primary School Nursery

2017 Welcome

Welcome back to a new year and a new term. I hope you are all feeling refreshed and ready to meet the challenges of the year with renewed vigour!

If you have got to this blog then you have also got to our new website! We are very pleased with the updated look and the fresh feel it gives. We hope it is a true representation of school and that you can access everything that you need. You will see that we have a live Twitter feed on the home page too so hopefully we will be able to keep you as up to date as is possible.

Just to clarify a couple of uniform queries. Children should be in white shirts with ties; tights in black red or green are all acceptable and should be worn rather than leggings under skirts; shoes should be black; hair should be tied back and with simple bands not large ribbons; indoor PE kit is black shorts and a white T-shirt, leggings and trousers are for outdoor PE. I hope that helps.

Please ensure your child is at school on time, that is 8.55am. We have some persistent late pupils and the Local Authority is requesting information on these children. 5 minutes late a day is of course 25 minutes a week…before we know it a whole week of school is lost! If you have difficulty in getting your child to school at this time and would like our help or support please let us know.

Class 9 had an enjoyable trip to the Aquarium in Hastings last week as an introduction to their learning challenge. I also spotted classes 6 and FS2 take a walk to the beach, looks like we have a bit of a fishy theme going on!

The children are working hard to earn their reward bricks. Part of this is their home learning work so any support you can give, especially on hearing reading is certainly very useful.

As always, I make a plea for taking care in the car park and when driving down Baldwin Road. Double parking at the top of the road is causing a few issues so applying a little common sense with a dollop of patience should ensure traffic is kept moving and our children are safe.

Our newly elected Young Governors have met a few times and are working well together to gain pupil opinion and direct decision-making. An example would be the decisions to have the RNLI as a school charity; an excellent choice in my opinion given our location.

I would like to remind parents that children should not be bringing mobile phones into school. The beginning of next month is Safer Internet day. We shall be doing a lot of work around this as it is such an important area. Meanwhile if you have any concerns there are links on the website that may support you and your child.

We continue this term with our focus on British Values. This underpins all the work we do and is threaded through all learning. Through our provision we also cover aspects such as radicalisation as this is clearly an important current issue and one that we must educate our young people about.

I love looking at the stories on Class Dojo as I know many of you do too. Please be aware however that I may not check the notifications regularly, i.e. daily so if you have an urgent message to get to me, email or a telephone message would be better.

Well I think that is enough to kick the year off with. Let’s hope the lighter evenings are soon upon us along with some early spring sunshine.

Kind regards

Nicola Wood
